New wardrobe..again!

July 29, 2008 at 5:45 pm (Baby, fashion, Parenting, Shopping, Uncategorized) (, , )

I took on the monumental task of washing and putting out all of Alexis’s 6-9 month size clothes and put away or give away the 3-6 month clothes.  She had outgrown the 3-6 month sizes a couple weeks ago but I hadn’t gotten around to switching yet because of all the washing involved.  Yes, I still pre-wash all of her clothes.  I get creeped out b/c she puts everything in her mouth including outfits so I want  to make sure that I wash away germs and anything else from whoever had handled the clothes in the stores.

I digress.  My point is that Alexis now has a completely new wardrobe!  Again! This will be her 4th set and she’s only 5 months old!! First she had all the newborn clothes, then 0-3, 3-6!  I wish I could get all new clothes every few months!!  Of course it’s fun for me to play dress-up with her and see all the adorable new outfits I get to put on her.  She has an abundance of clothes and as I was putting away her old ones, I was looking at outfits she only wore once!!

Organics and Natural Products

July 29, 2008 at 9:50 am (Baby, Cooking, Opinion, Parenting, Pets, Shopping) (, , , )

I’ve been using Green Works cleaning products lately and I’m very happy with them.  They are not more expensive than the regular cleaners but they’re better for you and your family and the environment.  They clean just as well as anything else.   What I like about them is that they do not have a harsh chemical smell I don’t have to worry about the baby or the cat ingesting chemicals when they put something in their mouth.

I have also started giving Alexis baby foods and I’m feeding her the Gerber Organic stuff.  I just feel better about it.  I am going to start making my own baby food as soon as I test out each flavor and make sure she doesn’t have any allergies.  I wish that I lived closer to Whole Foods or Fresh Market I really would shop there.  I feel like being a parent has made me more aware of these things.  I buy organic at Publix but the line is limited and there are still a lot of non-organic food that I have to buy.  It’s a little more expensive but I feel that the benefit outweighs the cost.

It’s Shark Week!!!!

July 27, 2008 at 12:56 pm (Random) (, )

That’s right, Shark Week 2008 is starting tonight on Discovery.  I love Shark Week!!!! It’s going to be a busy week for my TiVo.  I am petrified of sharks, so much so that I don’t go swimming in the ocean unless I can clearly see my feet and I am close to the shore.  And I live in Miami!!!

Regardless, I am fascinated by sharks.  I am one of those people who is a huge dork and love to watch Discovery and National Geographic.  So of course combining my love of sharks with my love of educational programming, Shark Week is just my favorite time of the year!  I am definitely looking forward to the new shows and re-watching the oldies that I’ve seen a hundred times!

It’s going to be a good week!!

Trip Planning

July 25, 2008 at 8:19 am (Travel) (, )

I love traveling! I’ve been to a lot of places – all through the US, many countries in Europe (some more than once), Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.  One of my favorite things about traveling is getting ready for the trip.  I love doing the research, the planning.  I go to the travel sites and see what they recommend, I read the books, etc.  Usually before I leave I have an itinerary prepared with activities broken out by location and separated by day.  I’m very organized so that we don’t waste time on the trip every morning saying, “what do we do today?”

With that said, I’m having a very hard time coming up with an itinerary in Hawaii!! I really just can’t seem to weed through the must-do and the could-do things.  I don’t do the beachy vacations very often, usually I do  the more adventurous lots to do places.  My last trip was two and a half weeks in Alaska – lots to do and easy to figure out the highlights.  Hawaii – not so much.  We’re going to the Big Island and to Oahu.  The only thing I HAVE to do is go to Volcanoes National Park.  I have a fascination with volcanoes and to be able to see an active one I think will be amazing.  Other than that, it seems like one beach after another.  Except Pearl Harbor, which we will visit as well.  I’m trying to figure out where we have to go and shouldn’t miss, but the travel guides aren’t very clear cut on this.  So I guess I will need to keep looking and hope that i can sift through to find a list of places we need to visit and sights we need to see.

Advice appreciated…

Yay! (sort of)

July 24, 2008 at 12:22 pm (Weight Loss) (, , )

Weekly weigh-in check.  I lost the 8 ounces that I had gained, but nothings else.  So yay! But not really b/c now I’m back where I was 3 weeks ago.

Marc and I went out to dinner a few nights ago for a date night.  I had a chicken caesar salad.  It was so high in sodium that I was drinking water all night long.  And of course that means I was retaining water the next day which was reflected on the scale.  I thought I was being good by having the salad.

This sucks I seem to be stuck at this weight, I need to kick start myself into gear again!!!!! I’m thinking of trying Alli but they’re kind of pricey.  Of course if they work then it’s totally worth it.  I may check it out.

So I put her on her back and I am waiting with the video camera for her to do it again!

Happy 5 months!

July 21, 2008 at 10:09 am (Baby, Family) (, )

Alexis is 5 months old today! Time really does fly.  I know its cliche, but its true!! I really cannot believe that its been 5 months that I was heading to the hospital for my induction!! So much has happened and I have this wonderful little person in my life now!!!

So far, she babbles, reaches for things, can pass objects from one hand to the other, holds herself up on her hands, sits unassisted (briefly), and giggles.  She however refuses to roll over!! She rolled once from belly to back, but never again.  She gets all the way on her side from her back so she’s close to doing that, but oh well.   She just does not want to do it.   It’s so exciting to see all the changes and milestones.  I can’t wait to see what the next months hold for us!!!

Keeping myself accountable

July 17, 2008 at 2:39 pm (Shopping, Weight Loss) (, , )

I went to Jenny Craig this morning to weigh in.  I hadn’t gone in 2 weeks so I was overdue.  Those 2 weeks were not good diet weeks.  With the surgery and being at my mom’s house etc, I just wasn’t good.  I know those are excuses but its true! So I didn’t do as badly as I had thought and I only gained 8oz (yay!).  I was expecting it to be more like 2 pounds! That’s a lesson to me though that the diet gods may not be so nice next time around.  So I need to re-focus myself and really be good and eat the JC foods and not cheat!!!

Hopefully by next weeks’s weigh-in I will have lost  those 8oz plus more!!!

On a positive note, I truly cannot wear my size 14 shorts anymore.  Those are the shorts that I bought immediately after having the baby and being sick and tired of maternity clothes.  I was horrified at having to buy 14s, but there it was.  Slowly I have gone down, I bought a pair of size 12s but never bought any 10s.  I have recently bought 2 size 8s (woo-hoo!!) They’re a bit snug but they fit.  I put on the 14s today to go out and they are literally falling off.   I have to pull them up every 5 seconds – not comfy.  So I am almost back to my pp size 6 and I can’t wait!!!!!

Miracle Napping Solution!

July 16, 2008 at 2:11 pm (Baby, Parenting, Sleep) (, , , )

After struggling with naps for a while now and sometimes succeeding, sometimes not, I was at my wits end! Yesteday, Alexis was clearly in need of a nap towards the late afternoon.  She was not falling asleep in her swing, which usually works.  I put her in her crib but she started kicking her legs in the air and playing with her feet.  Then she started whining and not falling asleep.  So, I thought I would try to put her on her tummy.  I had tried doing that before but she never liked it and would pick her head up.  Well she put her head on the mattress and I patted her butt a little and then left the room.  I didn’t hear anything on the monitor and went  back to check on her and she was out! She actually slept for an hour and a half!  I decided since it worked I would do it again today to see if it was a fluke or not and she’s asleep, almost 2 hours now!! Yay!!!!! She never napped that long in her crib on her back before so I think this is it!!
